Basement Window Installation In Calgary You Can Count On
To begin the basement egress window installation process, we recommend you apply for a permit to install an egress window with the City of Calgary. After you contact us, we will work around your schedule to find a time to come in and do a free in-home consultation, which will include measuring to map out your new basement window. We will talk about your choice for the window location and the unique factors that will determine what style window and size options that will work in your chosen location. We will also discuss costs and when you agree to the work, we will provide a customer friendly contract for your review and signature. We will also ask for a deposit, then schedule a time for your new window installation. On the scheduled installation day, we will arrive between 8:30-9 am allowing you to get the kids to school or ease into your day. The installation process is quick, efficient and we guarantee to treat your house as we would treat our own — leaving it as clean as if we were never there.
Professional Basement Egress Window Installation
If you need egress windows installed, our scope of work includes the entire process. From applying for the permit to supply of the window, digging the appropriate-sized hole for the window well, basement window installation, waterproofing, insulating and finishing the interior trim and concrete and dirt removal. Some things to keep in mind:
- In Alberta, 3.77sq/ft is the minimum requirement for clear space.
- No dimension can be less than 15 inches. The 15 inches is a bit mis-leading as no window manufacturer makes an egress compliant window with a side less than 21 inches.
- Window wells must extend no less than 30 inches out from the wall, and must be 4 inches above grade.
Pick the best window for you:
Sliding Windows – These windows open from right to left and work like a sliding door. These windows must be a minimum of 44″ by 33″ inches or 48″ by 30″ inches to meet the open area requirements by Alberta and City of Calgary egress codes -which is a minimum open area of 3.77 square feet.
Casement Windows – These windows open like a door on a hinge. These work well in basements as they open out into the well rather than up. To meet minimum provincial egress requirements this style window must be a minimum of 30 inches by 30 inches and will have a 3.77 sq. ft. opening.
- All window above are measured by the outside frame measurement. These are the minimum size window frames that when opened and the screen removed, will give you the 3.77 square feet of clear opening required by code.
Yes, the City of Calgary requires that a permit is pulled when you install a new or larger basement window. We will pull the permit for you at a cost, or we will provide you with a detailed one-pager that will explain step by step how you can navigate the city web site to pull a permit.
